Gems are a form of currency that is used to use to trade for Lootboxes. You can gain these gems from getting a duplicate from lootboxes, monthly gifts from the mailman or missions!
Head over to the nearest loot box opener in your lobby and right click it and then click the anvil.
You will then be able to select a range of Common lootboxes all the way up to mythical! The only exception being seasonal lootboxes, clan lootboxes and legendary lootboxes.
